If you're inspired by what you've read and feel a resonance with the values and endeavours of Freemasonry, reach out for an informal chat — and take the first step towards discovering the rewarding journey that awaits you within our Lodge.

Who can join?

Open to men of every walk of life

Membership is open to men over 18, of good character, with a belief in a Supreme Being. Beyond that, we welcome any background, faith or profession — Freemasonry has always been a place where men of every walk of life meet on equal terms.

You don't need to know anyone in the Lodge already. Many of our members joined cold — they were curious, got in touch, came along to a social, and decided this was for them.

Did you know?

One of the world's oldest organisations

Freemasonry has played a prominent role in shaping social, cultural and political landscapes for centuries. The formation of the Grand Lodge of England in 1717 is widely recognised as a turning point — but the Craft's roots go back much further, into the medieval stonemasons' tradition.

The process

Five honest steps

  1. Get in touch

Use the form below or email us directly. There's no commitment whatsoever in reaching out — every enquiry is treated in confidence.

  2. An informal chat

Our Membership Officer will arrange a relaxed conversation — over coffee, on the phone, or at the Lodge. We'll answer your questions and you can decide whether you'd like to know more.

  3. Meet some of the members

The best way to know if Gosport Lodge is for you is to come along to a social event. You'll meet members, see the Lodge, and get a feel for what we're about.

  4. Submit a formal application

If you'd like to proceed, we'll guide you through a short application — references, a meeting with the committee, and a vote by the members.

  5. Initiation

You'll be initiated as an Entered Apprentice at one of our regular meetings — a memorable occasion, the first of three traditional ceremonies that mark a Mason's progress through the Craft.

The honest details

What it costs and what to wear

There's an annual subscription, plus dining costs at the Festive Board on meeting nights. There are also one-off costs when you join — a modest initiation fee and your regalia. The figures are reasonable and we'll talk you through them when you get in touch.

For your first attendance, a dark suit, white shirt and a sober tie are perfect. Once you're a member, full kit information is provided — there's no need to invest in anything before you're sure.

Did you know?

Roughly one evening a month

The time commitment is modest — our regular Lodge meeting is one Tuesday a month, September through May. Social events are at your discretion, and many bring partners and family.
